Time To Review My Arsenal Before Obamanation Takes Over.

Post by skb12172 »

I have many mil-surp rifles and handguns, but there are only a select few of my weapons that I consider my "arsenal." That is, that would be used in SHTF. Before we are subjected to Hope and Change, I thought now was the time to review my preparations and, if necessary, make some Change of my own. Comments are welcomed and encouraged.

Ruger 10/22 .22LR carbine
Hi-Standard .22LR pistol w/ 3 magazines
3,000 rounds of .22LR

Mossberg 500 w/ 18.5 inch barrel and full stock
300 "00" shells, 50 slugs

SKS w/ original stock/sling and 20 stripper clips
500 rounds of 7.62x39

PA-63 w/ 3 magazines
300 rounds of 9x18mm

Taurus .357 magnum snubbie w/ 2 speed loaders
300 rounds of 38spcl +P

I do have four Mosin-Nagants, but don't consider them part of my SHTF gear. Since I live in a suburban area, a powerful, bolt-action rifle for long range just isn't necessary.

My only concern is the PA-63 being dependent on a "commie caliber." Yes, so is the SKS, but you can buy x39 at Walmart if you need to. 9x18...not so much. I also have the .357 to counter that and, as always, stocking ammo is the way to ensure you don't run out when you need it, but should I be overly worried about this? Fire away.

Not bad.

A few suggestions:

1911

A few thousand rounds more of x39 before the price goes through the roof

Maybe a backup SKS before, see above.

Get a few hi-caps for the 10/22 if you have any interest in owning them.

A review seems like a good idea. I hadn't thought about it much...but now I will.

My SHTF aresenal:

Shottie: 870 HD. I only have about 100 rounds of 00 and 25 slugs. Obviously, I need to stock up more ammo for this little baby.

Handguns:
1911 and G21 in .45. I have at least 3K rounds of FMJ and about 500 rounds of JHP and at least 6 mags for each.

Hi Power in 9mm along with at least 3K rounds and 6 mags.

I've got 3 S&W 357's in various sizes. The smallest is a good pocket gun or boot gun, but only as a backup. The larger two I really can't see me going for in a bad sitchy. I've got about 1K rounds of 357, of which almost all of it is JHP.

Marlin .22LR (can't remember the model...4000 maybe) with 6 mags. I love this gun. I also have a couple 10/22's, but I hate them. I've never had anything but trouble with those shitty rotary mags.
Buckmark .22LR with 6 mags.
Somwhere between 5K and 10K rounds stocked up.

Battle rifle. This is where I am hurting. I just don't shoot rifles much as there aren't any ranges close to home. As a result, I have never developed a love for rifles that is often shown by the good folks on this forum. So, I don't have many.

That being said, I do have a Marlin Camp .45 Carbine, with sling, that would be my SHTF rifle. As it shares mags with my 1911, I should be OK with a 1911 on my hip, the Carbine slung over my shoulder, a bunch of mags in my pockets and belt, and a featherweight 357 in my boot, with the G21 and Shottie bedside.

I do have a Savage 308, but I agree with the OP, that reaching out to touch someone in my urban area probably won't be needed if the SHTF.

I think I'm doing OK, but I do wish I had a better choice for battle rifle.

And I do need to get more rounds for the shottie though.

Darn, I lost all my stuff in a tragic boating accident. Yeah, that's it, a boating accident. I think I'll take up knitting. :)

Wow...a boating accident. What a bummer. I sold all my stuff 'cause I needed money for dope and hookers (one of those weekends...you understand). And no, I ain't got no receipts...stores use receipts and I'm strictly cash and carry. Maybe I'll buy some more when the Messiah leaves office..... ;)

There must have been several of us boaters out there in the high wind. I was lucky that my guns were all I lost. Now I am out of money and can't buy any more. :|

I've got a rock. Actually, I have two rocks, but one is sub-caliber, since it was designed for concealed carry.

Bump up magazine count for the 10/22 and the Hi-Standard. Same for the stripper clips, they're disposable until you don't have any more.
The Hi-Standard mags are similar to mags for the Colt Woodsman and aren't the most sturdy made, plan accordingly.

Ammo for everything. Lot's of .22, a good .22 rifle and a batch of .22 ammo got my family through the "great depression", I don't want to do the same thing but I could.

I'd probably pick up a full size .357 as a belt gun, and use the Taurus as a backup to it. Gives a better capability for defense/hunting uses.

Something as simple as picking up a brick of .22 everytime you go to wally-world can get a surprising amount of ammo quickly.
