Experience counts

92 years old, with combat experience in WW2.

Things he did right when dealing with unknown visitor(s) at 2am:

1. Had a rifle
2. Had clear line of sight to door
3. One shot to the chest as intruder came through the door (intruder collapsed down stairs, so didn't need to follow-up with one more to the chest and one to the head)
4. Called neighbor and tasked neighbor to deal with 911 (kept his attention on the door and didn't get distracted with 100 stupid questions from 911 operator)

Things he did wrong:

1. He should have asked neighbor to come over and wait for police with him, so he could be a witness in case police 'justifiably' shoot 'armed & dangerous' 92-year old guy

For those who belittle the .22LR, shooting an elephant with .375H&H has less foot pounds per body weight than shooting an 150Lb man with a .22Short. Bullet placement counts. He "... aimed at the heart."

I'm also not going to fault him for sitting in an easy chair vs. waiting in the prone position. He's 92 years old. He knows his circulation couldn't take waiting prone for more than 60 seconds. He made the right tactical decision. "A man's gotta know his limitations." Clint E.

one can be a Democrat, or one can choose to be an American.
Good acting requires an imagination; reality requires a person not getting lost in their imagination.
