Over at the Belmont club the topic was refugees and evacuating. The subject of handcarts came up.
I got to thinking about the hand cart the GI's used during WW II. They were dual purpose you could hall them behind a vehicle or use them as a push or pull cart.

I know several vacation places we visit which have hand carts, and use mountain bike rims and tires as wheels to ensure easy rolling over uneven terrain and sufficient ground clearance including during the winter months. The nice thing about these cars is that they can support a LOT of weight, and yet are light-weight themselves, thus making them easier to push and maneuver around than heavier carts with larger, heavier wheels, including pneumatic tire'd wheels with larger, thicker tires. Yet, for the purpose, the mountain-bike tires and rims more than accomplished the job.
If necessary, I might be able to dig up a photo of the carts I'm talking about. They have a dump-truck style design to the semi-enclosed portion of the cart, and the back/floor was metal-frame-backing on treated & sealed plywood sheeting, with braced sides and metal-covered-wood-edges. This thing made it VERY easy to move our bags from the parking area to our room in one movement, and without damaging any of the local flora and fauna due to the wide bike tires with moderate pressure so they squish & roll over bumps and edges, without smashing stuff under them flat (even with a few hundred pounds in the cart).
The bigger the tires, the easier the rolling. The more common the tires and rims, the cheaper you'll find replacement items, and the lighter they are, the easier it will be to move them. Bottom line - consider your area and what's available and KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID (KISS).

Some of us bush rats use wagons and carts extensively, the best ones are the heavy duty garden carts, Costco/Sam's club garden carts seem best.

This is the tactical wheelbarrow that we use:
A Troy Built garden cart that has been advertised in Organic Gardening magazine etc. for forty plus years.
It's rated to four hundred lbs.

We had those! Both the big one and the small one. The problem with them is the big one is only good for moving light density stuff like hay, and the plywood construction tends to give out after a mere 3 decades
