Heard about this on the NYC news radio station this morning, last thing they said was "The clerk has not be charged yet."

I know that prosecuting a shooter who defended her life and the life of her baby daughter is par for the course in NYC;
I hope the same isn't true in Florida.

The (almost) civilized world doesn't expect mothers to sacrifice their children to the state. Given that we're pretty much all held in bondage, I guess we're not quite civilized, anymore - but I cannot imagine any elected official running on the "prosecute the maternal instinct" platform. (Outside of the EU, SF, LA or NYC.)

She was trained to shoot at his KNEE???
As the man made for the front door with the child, Easterly did just as she had been taught — she drew a gun and aimed for the would-be robber’s knee, Ackerman said.
She must have hit his femoral artery for him to die unless that's not where the bullet wound up hitting him.

I'm guessing that he was holding the child in one arm about torso height, so she put one in his leg to stop him. Which puts gold stars and pixie dust sprinkles on this righteous shooting, for
extraordinary cool-headed action on her part.

The guy had her daughter in his arms one would presume, so I would shoot the knee as well to prevent a shoot through.
Great aim!

*IF* she was good enough to aim for his knee, she could have an even BIGGER TARGET by aiming at his HEAD! But
according to one of the stories:
The man, whose name was not released, demanded money from Elizabeth Easterly, a clerk at Del’s 24 Hour Food Store, and then grabbed a stroller that held Easterly’s baby, said Del Ackerman, the store’s owner and Easterly’s grandfather.
Now *IF* the kids were still in the stroller, and he was trying to push it out the door, shooting him in the knee would not have been the favored target over COM.
Please remember this is ALL "Monday-Morning-Q-Backing" as we are ALL going off press reports and stories we find. NONE of us were there and ALL the credit goes to the woman in the arena, who took care of business!!
Since the turd died, my heart and condolences go out to the woman taking the fatal shot and having to live with take the life of another human being. No matter what ANYONE else tells her, she's likely to have doubts the rest of her life even after SHE CLAIMS TO HAVE AIMED AT HIS KNEE, clearly not wishing to take his life. Unfortunately, the goblin's actions precluded those which followed, ultimately ending in his death and the ONLY person able to stop his death was the suspect himself.
I wish I could explain all this to the poor woman who took his life, no matter how hard she tried to not take it. So, therefore, it must have been God's Will to end the life of that particular dirtbag, by steering the events which took the criminal's life.
So it is written, so it shall be done.

It was the goblin's time to go. I don't care how careful she was in only trying to stop him, it was his time to go. If God hadn't said her daughter is to stay but it was his time to go, he could not have run fast enough; the door could have fallen on him as he left the store, or he could have choked on his beer later.
And yes, I am thinking of what Gunny Highway said to Lieutenant Ring in "Heartbreak Ridge."
