A rather even-handed story in The El Paso Times, complete with poll. Comments are the usual. ;)

I love the "Click to see comments" feature. I wish my local paper's website would do the same. I like to think the best of my neighbors, and reading the comments make me think less of them.

One of the things that astounded me about Texas (when I found out) was that, not only do they require a class, with a shooting test, for CCL, but that open carry isn't allowed. I mean, it's TEXAS. And now I know the class, and the permit, are on the pricey side, on top of it all.

Contrast to my (adopted, until the Army sends me somewhere better) home state of WA: $65 for a permit with no required classes or tests, and open carry of loaded weapons is allowed (except in cars). Oh, and those laws pre-date Florida's.

Where's the "I've already got one" selection on the poll?
