Seen a few of these threads lately...

Last night was probably the first night in months where I was in bed before midnight, laid down at a early 10:30pm. About 3:30 the dogs started barking which is unusual at night.

Wife jumped up and went out in the hall, I was about 10 seconds later getting up. Sat up, grabbed the 9mm out of my lock box and checked the house. False alarm but things were smoother than I thought they would be.

Couple of things I noticed.

First, a flashlight would have been nice but I am worried that it would reflect off the windows and not let me see out. My house is not really dark at night, I was able to see pretty well inside due to various electronics and their lights plus the street light is a good bit of light. I couldnt see very well outside though.

Secondly, my wife has no real sense of it being dangerous to go out and look around the house. I have to fix that.

Still up now, cant sleep... baah...

Wife with no sense of danger, that is the most scary part... to me.

Yeah, a common occurrence as well. I've found starting people on situational awareness drills tends to help.

I haven't done so yet, but after shooting a "shoot house" I think I really want a Liberator, or something like that - perhaps a Tomahawk... That, or a weapon light on a long arm...

Get motion lights on the outside. I even have some solar ones that work great. Other than that you need lights outside you can control. I like a weapon light to identify my target, might just be a drunk friend who needs help. (ask me how I know)

If you can make it real bright outside and keep your house interior dark, they won't be able to see in without coming right up to the glass (or shining a light into the house).

It is bright enough outside with all the inside lights off that you cant see in anyways unless it is a new moon or very overcast. But yeah, I know. Were it not a rental, I would have already dug a moat and released the crocs.
