When The SHTF
Re: When The SHTF
I just picked up a good book, "The Second After". It is fiction but the theme is an EMP hit for the United States. As bad as that would be, and it would be bad, it would not just effect the USA but the whole world. We are linked in ways that make that happen. And what do you think other countries do to the nation that killed the main consumer for their economies? Also, the trillions we owe to other nations would become mute point in a second, do you think China would be OK losing a trillion? And our subs the least likely to be effected with an EMP wave ,would nuke the county that hit the US. The world would be in WWIII real quick. That is why I do not worry about it, life would be intense, somewhat fun and short, so why worry?

Re: When The SHTF
There are two problems with the "they wouldn't dare" theory.
1. Covert attack. We don't know for sure who is behind it, or we know, but it's
al qaida, not a nation-state. Whom do we nuke? This is why I maintain that the
US must have a declared policy that any covert attack will be met with retribution
against all of our known enemies who have the capability. That means Iran and
n korea. We have to leave no doubt that they won't be able to finesse it. In the
absence of this declaration, they may figure that we won't retaliate without ironclad
proof, since we're so legalistic. The left's efforts to reduce the war on islamofascism
to a civil suit encourages this belief.
2. Millennial regimes. Deterrence can't work against zealots who think God has
ordained that they must bring on the End Times. This means Iran. It is not certain
that they will act on this, but it's not at all improbable.
There's no question that nuclear attack is in the cards in the near future. The only
question is whether we are included.
