I agree with every statement you made but this one. Don't let the other guy take it to the ground. If you got an opportunity to take the guy down(preferably face first) use it. The one time not to is if he has friends around, but then you gotta worry about them coming up from behind you standing anyway.

Last bit of advice...If you're not cheating you're not trying. There is no such thing as a fair fight except the one YOU walk away from. As Highspeed mentioned biting don't forget that if you can grab it squeeze/twist/pull. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks as long as you're not the guy on the ground crying.
