No, if you put two people together, one of them will lead.

If you put a mob of 100 together, one will be leading more than any other.

After action reports of many of these events paint them as flash mob wildings. By definition basically leaderless as the organizer scumbag is likely miles away giggling at the effects of his "genius".

Also if you are caught up in it, as opposed to in an overwatch position; determining leadership will be quite difficult. My theory would be to hit those closest to me so that those behind will see and trip over the consequences of their actions.

There are two kinds of mobs, led and leaderless.

1) leaderless mobs (rioters) tend to avoid armed korean shopkeepers. (or anyone else with an Evil assault weapon)

2) Led mobs, start by shooting the leader.

This is my opinion, too. Instead of waiting and trying to see leadership behavior, which eats up valuable time, whack someone who is threatening you. Word is bound to get through to the others that you are bad news best avoided.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

This is NOT the case with mob mentality. There are a few inciters, but once the spark is lit, they no longer retain control. Each member of a mob will assume a leadership role if necessary. Mob mentality is "peer pressure" to the extreme.

I've read about something like that. The story was that a hired mob was on its way to a town to cause a riot at a political meeting, but someone gave them free liquor on the train and when they finally arrived they were too drunk to cause any problem. :D
