oops, I did not realize that we were having a serious discussion about the merits of 9mm vs .45, sorryNetpackrat wrote:Not if they aren't made, as they weren't here.BloodlessWeevil wrote:BloodlessWeevil say, bigger hits count more.Netpackrat wrote:Guru say, Only Hits Count.

In that case I advocate spending your time training, rather than agonizing over your choice of caliber.

I didn't think it was that serious... I was kind of curious if the BG with the .45 actually managed to get any shots off at all, or how many. It wasn't really clear when I read the article.

That was my point - HITS are ALWAYS far more effective than MISSES - no matter the caliber!!! You can shoot 12-lbs bowling balls at someone at 800 FPS and if they don't hit what you're trying to stop, they don't do the job (especially if he's still trying to do you harm after dodging all those bowling balls).
I love my .45's, but I also love my SIG P226 which has 15 rounds of mixed ball and Black Talons, and I never shoot at a threat only once (and I'm a pretty decent shot with my SIG, especially at handgun range). It all depends on what you're comfortable with carrying and operating and can hit your target when needed. I carried my S&W 586 LONG after my department went to semi-autos, and I consistently outshot almost everyone on the firing line during qualifications. I was on target and putting rounds downrange faster and more accurately than my co-workers using autos. The only thing I couldn't beat them at was reloading (speed loaders are fast, but for MOST humans, magazines are still faster for reloading). I carried my 586 until I retired from the department, and now my wife enjoys shooting it more than she does our autos (except the .22 Browning Buckmark I bought her). She can even handle full-house magnum rounds with little fuss using that gun. So now she handles my 586 and I carry my SIG - and neither of us have a habit of hissing our targets.
Two hits are FAR BETTER than 10 misses!!! And they can take that to the GRAVE!

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

The catch is, I get to miss 17 times with a 9mm.

Re: 9mm > .45
Here is the thing: I consider self defense firearms usage to serve two purposes.
1. Neutralize the threat.
2. Withdraw from the threat.
The first standard is met by most calibers effectively enough. It is in the second category that I consider the 9mm superior. The extra rounds increase the amount of fire I can place on target while I am moving out of the danger area.

9x23 win... The best caliber, which just couldn't get it together (got caught in politics - It would be great if Glock adopted it as the 9MM GLOCK, or something, to make up for the inferiority bit about the 357 sig...)
