According to this, they do monthly NICS checks on CHL holders. The per capita data is still interesting - NJ for instance, comes in Dead last among states, only 1536/100K.Aegis wrote:I seem to recall seeing that before, and being informed it's because Kentucky does yearly NICS checks of all it's CHL holders. I wonder how much money they spend on doing those checks when the money could be better used elsewhere?? No doubt they get a good-sized break on the cost from the Dumbo administration.HTRN wrote:According to this, they do monthly NICS checks on CHL holders.Aegis wrote:I seem to recall seeing that before, and being informed it's because Kentucky does yearly NICS checks of all it's CHL holders. POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Wouldn't those numbers be dramatically under-reported in most states? I don't think TX requires an insta-check for a CHL holder... And I've bought a "few" since I got my permit - nothing like Candyman, but then, no one is.

In Texas, if you have a chl, they just fill out the paperwork, no call needed. I think it's the same in most other states. Those numbers could be underrated by at least 10 to 20%. Thanks for reminding me of that.Aglifter wrote:Wouldn't those numbers be dramatically under-reported in most states? I don't think TX requires an insta-check for a CHL holder... Color me ignorant, but I had no idea.
If each NICS check results in a single purchase (and we know it doesn't; we can only use that number as a conservative baseline), then 16 MILLION new guns entered private hands this year alone.
It's 2:45am here as I post this, so I'll just remark "holy crap" in lieu of something more intellectual. Really, that's staggering to me.

Corrected. NICS aren't a great way to judge total firearms entering the market, because used guns also go through it. Last I heard, the FBI estimate was "over 200 million" and John Lott reportedly estimated between 280 and 320 million.workinwifdakids wrote: then 16 MILLION guns, both new and used changed hands this year alone.

Speaking with my class III guy, these numbers also reflect the increase in Class III/NFA business. It seems that there may have been a tipping point with inflation where the $200 fee, which used to be exorbitant (okay, it still is, but was even more so), in conjunction with the looming threat of further regulation for NFA stuff, everyone is getting it while the getting is good. I just put in an order a few weeks ago for the following:

It will probably take me the better part of a year to get my hands on it, but so what? It makes baby vulcan smile.
