SAN DIEGO — A 67-year-old man and his 19-year-old son were beaten with an aluminum baseball bat Monday night in a home-invasion robbery in the Bay Ho neighborhood, San Diego police said.
The father was “badly beaten” on the head and was unconscious, police Lt. David Rohowits said. He was transported to a trauma center.
The incident was reported about 8:30 p.m. at a two-story home on Raffee Drive, off Eichenlaub Street.
The son had come home about 30 minutes earlier and had gone into his first-floor bedroom, Rohowits said. He heard a struggle and a cracking sound, and came out to find two men attacking his father.
The assailants were described as white or Latino, in their 20s, one about 5 feet 8 inches tall and the other about 6 feet tall. They were wearing all-dark clothing, including hoodies, and bandannas over their faces. One of the men had an aluminum bat.
The son intervened in the attack and was struck by the bat. As he fought back, he threw a lamp at the intruders, Rohowits said.
The son lost consciousness for a time and did not see the assailants leave. He was taken to a hospital. His condition was not known.
Officers and a police helicopter searched the area for the assailants. The house is near the end of a dead-end street and has canyon space in back.
The robbers may have entered the house from an unlocked back patio door, Rohowits said.
No one else was home at the time, the lieutenant said. He said it was not yet known what was taken from the home.
Anyone with information about the crime is ask to call the police at (619) 531-2299.

I have three loaded guns within easy reach of me right now.

I sure hope he does something similar after this incident, and realizes the government CAN NOT protect you. Thankfully, they weren't killed.Jered wrote:I have three loaded guns within easy reach of me right now.

I've got close friends pretty much in that neighborhood; including a single mom, her teen daughter and her 78 yr old mother. Wouldn't have expected this to happen there. Decent enough area. Well, yeah some apartment clusters etc but still not exactly the cheapest seats in town.

Doesn't matter how nice the neighborhood is, if the not-so-nice ones are in easy driving distance. My mom's house is in one of the best neighborhoods in the New Orleans area, but it's just across the canal from a chunk of the 'hood.blackeagle603 wrote:I've got close friends pretty much in that neighborhood; including a single mom, her teen daughter and her 78 yr old mother.
