Systema???
I've been thinking about getting into something new lately. I remember Doc Russia was going to a Krav Maga place outside Detroit that he thought quite a bit of. That could certainly be an option. I also have, just outside Detroit, what is allegedly one of the top Systema guys in the country. Having read up on it a bit and watched a few videos, the form strikes me (no pun intended
) as a weird mix of absolutely brutal and comically goofy techniques. My question is does anyone here know anyone properly schooled in this form, and is it worth looking into?

Yes, definitely check into it if you are looking for an effective fighting system to train in. The guy I train with regularly and owns a Combat Kempo school here in Phoenix was a student of Systema for a while.
It is hard to describe without getting in there and trying it out. The concepts and principles are a lot different than other arts but are a lot more natural for a lot of people. It is a combat oriented system so your not going to win many martial arts point sparring tournaments with it.
I utilize several systema drills in my regular training. They are probably the single most affective tool for remembering to stay loose, let go, go with the flow and be brutal with every movement.
Combat Sambo was derived from Systema. And this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVVrNOQtlzY (greatest mixed martial arts prize fighter in history) demonstrates a lot of the nuances of Russian fighting styles.
