For the record. I never should have looked.

Get thee behind me Satan.

Posting pictures of that project is no help at all in me prioritizing and staying focused on existing priorities and projects.. Visions of backyard smithy's will haunt my nights now. I'd succeeded in pushing the forge and foundry dreams down the list. I need to keep it there for a while longer.

It's in my blood.

Grandpa and Uncle Charlie had neighboring farms. They specialized and collaborated in related side business.

Grandpa trained the horses (for various purposes: riding, traction, tricks). His brother Charlie was a blacksmith who did everything from horseshoes to fabbing & shrinking wagon wheel rims.

The little bit of student level blacksmithing I've done was a wee bit of heaven on earth. What's not to love?
Open flames?
White hot metal?
Smashing and finessing?
Engineering and artistry?

Blackeagle, you are being called. The beckoning fire is not from hell. It's in your DNA...asking for the kinetic energy from your own hands and high heat to make metal bend to your will.

Pre-shape, with the reverse curve - as the blade edge is forged thinner, that side stretches and curves the knife into the correct shape. Without the pre-shape the blade would look like a scimitar. The top front part of the blade is 'clipped' before forging the edge.

That last pic jogs an old memory loose of a pygmy spear I got to see as a kid. When I was young we had lots of missionaries pass through our little church on their furloughs. They'd always stay at our house (may explain why 5 of us 6 kids wound up as missionaries).

Anyway, we had this old missionary to Pygmy's from the Congo who had the most amazing "missionary chest" he'd unload and put on display when he spoke at church. Spears, bones, hides, snake skins, a massive python(?) skin, all sorts of craft items.

What I remember most was his stories of hunting elephant with the little men and their spears. He had wooden and metal tipped spears. The "modern" spear he had was forged from a leaf spring. They'd distract the elephant and then a brave soul would run in from behind and sink the spear into the heart behind the front quarter. Whoo-ahh!

There was a movie that had some guy forge a knife from a vehicle spring. Among other "Hollywood-izations", the character managed to forge a knife from the spring while in a SERE situation. I'm sure it was a lot more work than the movie version!
Are you thinking of The Hunted?

How does an elephant hide in a bag of M&M's?
He paints his toenails red, yellow, green and blue.

But Zero, was there any particular reason the guard is stainless steel and the butt is aluminum? Ease of manufacture? Parts on hand? Some safety or usage benefit?
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

How can you tell if you're in bed with an elephant?

Two ways:

The smell of peanuts on his breath,

and,

The large embroidered "E" on his pajama tops.
