End of May in GA would work for me.

Some random thoughts.

Public range is nice, but be prepared to share the range. Range nice, sharing, not so much.

Camping at the range. Big deal! Camping, living remotely looses camaraderie and makes for a later start and earlier quit.

Food is big, but can be "portable" to the site.

I know of a perfect place, right outside of Charlotte, allows camping on site, has a FFL on site... I go there twice a year for NC/SC group meetups and the owners love us.

Outdoor to 300yds, 2x pistol bays, 3x shotgun ranges.

I'd sort of quieted down on this until we heard what Precision's plans become.

Charlotte, SC, I guess?

Depending on the date, I may be able to make it to Charlotte.

Work around me. I will not know what my future holds for a while. We have to start her treatment, then see how that works, then see how long she goes into remission for, if at all. We are hopeful. With life there is hope.

We caught it very early. She is completely convinced that is a God thing and that it means she will not be swiftly swept away. We will see how it all unfolds, but if at all possible she and I would like to meet some of the people who make this place so great and perhaps some of the people who have been so sweet to her through her cancer battle(s).

Ok so if this is going to get planned, the place I know is in Pageland, SC... Closest major city is Charlotte, NC about 30 miles north. A suburb city, Monroe is right across the border.

Should we figure on sometime in the spring after the weather warms up?

For me - and I am nothing like the deciding factor.

I would prefer a big piece of open land instead of a public range. I should be able to provide the private land.

http://www.mapquest.com/us/ga/sylvania

The location is half way between Sylvania and Millen on 21, due west of Sylvania about 8 miles. Looking at the map, the RV park is about 4 miles south of Sylvania on 301. The satellite properties range from 1/2 mile to 5 miles away from the main property.

My hunting lease in Sylvania GA has 3 x 100 acre properties and a main property of 600 acres. The main property has a few RV hook ups directly on the property (30 amp service, potable water and septic), has plenty of room to set up tents etc. There are a few decent / cheap motels within 10 minutes and a semi retired RV park that is owned by the land owner who would give me a very cheap rate for our event. We could even have the home base be the RV park. He has a catfish pond there we could fish in while we consume adult beverages and tell lies. We might even be able to do the bonfire thing there. I know we can at the main property which is a 15 minute drive from the RV park.

Spring Turkey season ends 15 April, so a May time frame would work. Shouldn't be TOO hot yet. In May, average high is 85F, average low is 58F. May gets an average of 3.5" of rain. Which is significantly lower than June and July at 5.5"

In my mind, one of the 100 acre properties was clear cut this year and would work well for distance shooting as 4-500 yd shots wouldn't be much of an issue. I would need to lay out a shooting range, but there is a place that slow angles down then angles up nicely behind, which should work well. It would be more just setting up a target area and using some 2x2's and some orange tape to make things obvious. Nature may provide the backstop or I could get a berm supplement too.

Of course all of this assumes Dawn is travel capable at that point. But we are believing that God gave her such early knowledge for a reason and that reason wasn't to torture her with the knowledge, more to allow her to treat and live well.

For the record, every single fish I have ever caught was 24" +... And, even though my wife does not agree, my package is 14" long.

If we do it near (or with enough lead time) Oleg would probably come. Speaking of which, after we get our shit organized, lets invite some others who are outside the forum: Rob Allen, Tam, Chris Muir, Jennifer and ER...
It doesn't look like Jennifer and I will do any traveling for the duration of 2014, and more than likely not the first half of 2015 for that matter. But, you folks are awesome for thinking of us! We are still planning the annual blog shoot in our neck of the woods in the Spring, but we have yet to put down any hard plans, and it looks like we lost our evening home base for the next several years.

When we're ready to break ground on the new house, what are the chances that anyone would come out for an old fashioned barn raising? Beer and pizza. ;)
