HONOLULU — Navy officials say one of two short-range ballistic missiles shot from a military facility in Hawaii in a defense system test was hit by an interceptor missile fired from a Navy ship.

Vice Adm. Samuel J. Locklear says Saturday’s trial marked the first time that the Navy — rather than the Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency — oversaw the firing of a so-called Standard Missile-3 interceptor against a ballistic missile target.

I'm not an expert on the SM3, but back in my SM2 shooting days we would normally excercise in a "shoot, shoot, look, shoot" mode. So even if the weapon was 50% effective (which is probably way conservative) then on any given missile you have an 87.5% of getting it. That goes to a 94.75% chance of getting it if you go to a "shoot, shoot, look, shoot, shoot" strategy.

That is worthwhile IMHO. A 90%+ chance of getting it vs. a 100% chance getting nuked.

For some reason the lefties disagree.

Because it makes the playing field uneven, it's now tipped in our favor and their communist buddies don't like it (that is until they can steal, or buy from the democrats, the technology to build their own).
