Fire in missile room not found for 5 days

A fire broke out inside the equipment room of a launch facility that houses a nuclear armed intercontinental ballistic missile at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., on May 23.

No damage was done to the nuclear missile and no one was hurt at the unmanned launch facility, said Air Force Space Command officials.

The damage from the fire, which extinguished itself, was not discovered until five days after it started during a thunderstorm that temporarily knocked out power at the site, said Maj. Laurie Arellano, a Space Command spokeswoman.

Holy Crap! Isn't THIS scary.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Something like this is why they should rethink the unmanned status.

Not Mil-Spec.

And the battery operated smoke detector would have buzzed until the battery died, with no one to hear it.

They don't "rethink the unmanned status, because this was a silo, not the launch control facility. One control capsule controls a number of remote silos. Those silos don't get opened and closed on a whim.

I'm familiar with the concept, and was referring to the whole design, not just an immediate fix.

My misteak for not installing clarity in my previous post.

An immediate fix would probably be to increase the frequency of visits by maintenance personnel to inspect, clean and repair.

So a thunderstorm can completely take a f*cking ICBM silo offline.
