Actually, the Sherman was fully expected to take on enemy tanks. McNair didn't write the doctrine.

Re: USS Ranger CV-4 From World of Warships
My understanding is that after the American experience in Africa where they fought mostly 50mm and short 75mm panzer 3s and 4s American leadership thought that the 75mm gun and Shermans armor would be enough for Normandy, with tank destroyers dealing with the occasional "heavy" Tiger or Panther. They underestimated the number of these "heavy" tanks that the Germans could field.Jericho941 wrote:Actually, the Sherman was fully expected to take on enemy tanks. McNair didn't write the doctrine.

Incorrect. Six prototypes were shipped to Belgium, less than a month before the war in Europe concluded in May of 1945.Langenator wrote:The first Centurion prototypes didn't make it to continental Europe until a month after the war ended.
They didn't see combat though.
HTRN, I would tell you that you are an evil fucker, but you probably get that a lot ~ Netpackrat

I think the larger point of the tank not being ready in time for use in europe still stands.

Also remember the prototype Centurion was a much different vehicle from what later made its name in combat. It was produced in an enormous number of evolutionary Marks, and the first few in particular had some major changes. IIRC the armor essentially doubled in the course of the first few Marks.HTRN wrote:Incorrect. That's a pretty good series. I wonder if they'll do one on Taffy 3.mekender wrote:Their most recent video, about the Yamato is a pretty good watch:

Re: USS Ranger CV-4 From World of Warships
Been playing this allot as of late, except for the past few days where I have had some other things that needed doing. I managed to get a Colorado game with over 2600 base xp, which led to me unlocking the North Carolina, which I have used all of three times at this point. There is an issue at the higher tiers in that the ships cost so much to repair no one wants to risk them, which results in a very long range and cautious play style. This is somewhat disappointing, but inevitable given the games design.

I am working through the Pensacola now... Thing is an eggshell with big guns on it.
A note on credits... If you get the Murmansk, that thing is a solid credits generator. I probably get 150,000 to 200,000 each round.
