I forget the channel, but there are vids on youtube about various ship classes. Just a pic with voice narration about that class, its features, service history, etc. what became of various ships and so forth.
The one on the USS Ranger talked about how her own Captain estimated the ship was so badly designed that a single torpedo hit would break the hull in half and sink it like a rock. Which is supposed to be the reason the Ranger was not sent anywhere where being attacked by air might happen. If I recall right, the Ranger never even sailed into the Med.
The Ranger also had no stowage space for torpedoes and carried mostly fighters. (see youtube)
One neat bit from those vids was the destroyer that sank the mini-sub outside the harbor at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 1941. Three years to the day... that ship went down in the Philippines, to a kamikaze hit I think. And the man who was Captain of her back on Dec. 7 1941 was the Captain of the destroyer that came alongside and made pick up on his old ship's crew.
Ah, here's the channel. Navyreviewer.
