You stand a good chance of being deployed. I understand your position, but to serve means just that I am afraid.

I did once hear a rumor that the marines will guarantee stuff in writing, unlike every other branch. Might want to look into that.

No matter what your MOS or AFSC is, there is something in your contract that says something like "depending on the needs of the service." You can get certain jobs that are less likely to be deployed, but there is NO guarentee, ever. I served in the Air Force, the Air Force Reserve, the Army, and the Army National Guard. Total time, 13 1/2 years. Never left the USA. Thought I would be in Nam for sure, was sent to Ft Polk, Ft Drum, Ft Ord, and FT Carson. WHY? This was 1961-1967, 1973-74, and 1979-1986. All honorable service. I certainly wish I had gotten 20 years, though. I was an idiot! Go for it! I think you will enjoy it, though it is often stupid and boring. I never complained about the food; it seemed to always be very good and in sufficient quanties.

Too bad there are no slots for 55 year old guys with attitude who hate America's enemies and have no outlet for their anger other than the gun range. I suppose the downtime from bad backs, badknees and lost eyeglasses would be a bit of a bummer.

You know that the army will now take recruits up age 44. And, you can subtract your years of service from your chronological age. Lets see... 65 minus 13.5 equals 51.5. No, still can't quite reach, but I would go, maybe.....

You find one that also accepts 4-F foreign nationals and I'm there with you bro.

I'd dig latrines if that was what it took, but my skills would probably be better employed in the armoury.

I got reclassed from 31B to 31E. I did not want to be a cage kicker.

What's that? :?:

FF, I know a LOT of other people who also fit that bill. Can't do the PT stuff anymore and aren't available for deployment, but damn if they can't relieve someone else to go on the line (even if they don't appreciate it).

31B is MP (Military Police)
31E is Corrections Specialist (aka Prison Guard aka Cage Kicker)
