Radonda Vaught Case

Post by Jered »

Anyone followed the Radonda Vaught case?

TLDR: Doctor orders medicine for a person to have a scan. Nurse 1 asks nurse #2 to do it. Nurse 2 goes to machine, types in VE, grabs first med that starts with those letters, reconstitutes med, gives it to patient, and then leaves. Patient dies. Nurse #2 figures out she gave the wrong med when nurse #1 brings it up.

In 2018 the state BoN took no action.
In 2019, she was indicted.
In 2021, the state BoN revoked her license.

In 2022, she got convicted of negligent homicide. Now she's a rallying cry for nurses and the criminalization of medical errors.

In hearing about those reactions, WTF people? Do you really want to hitch your wagon to some incompetent that says, "Well, that medicine had the same first two letters. It's close enough."

Of course she also made some own goals like waiving her 5th Amendment rights and trying to buy guns after she was indicted. Nothing says good decision making ability like giving the prosecutor a signed document saying you're a liar...
