More like "Connecticut wants to raise fees and taxes on everything that wont get the voting public pissed off enough to through them out of office to cover their budget problems".

If they had done that by simply raising income, sales and/or real estate taxes, you piss off enough people that you get replaced on election day, but raise permit fees, millionaire taxes, red light cameras in wealthy neighborhoods, etc, welll, then youre only pissing off a crrtain voting bloc, and if you're a democrat, theyll never vote for you anyway. :ugeek:

Star Tribune v. Commissioner.

Taxes and fees on a constitutionally protected right are unconstitutional.

This actually may be a good thing. If we can get a court case out of it. Given the timeline to get a SCOTUS ruling.

This is just a bargaining chip among many. They will likely end up doubling the state's portion of the fee like they did a few years back. Fwiw, an initial permit here already runs $300+ if you include the cost of the required NRA class. The proposed hike would put it north of $500. And that's without any increases on the checks we have to write to the local PD for prints and background checks. Those will likely increase also as the state reduces "state aid" to the towns as part of budget cuts.

We don't require a permit to purchase, or to carry open. A CCW permit is $20/year, for up to five years. And in our county, if you have one on your 65th birthday, renewals are free after that.

The governors budget director was answering questions at a hearing today and explained the rationale for the $300 permit renewal fee. The office of legislative research assembled a report of permit fees in all 50 states. The administration saw NYC, "a close neighbor" has a permit fee of $350/3yrs and proposed a fee in line with that. Cherry-picking bastards didn't bother to point out that is not only the highest fee in the region by a factor of 4, but also the highest fee in the country.

Missouri - no permit to buy / own. $50 for CCW permit that lasts for 5 years or constitutional carry if you don't want to get the permit (of course that limits you out of state) - freedom - F' yeah
