I can't vote. You'll all have to carry the burden of manning the walls this time round. Good luck tomorrow, we'll need it.
But next time. Next time...

I've filled out my ballot.
The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.

Voted this morning, shortly after the polls opened. Now all I can do is see what happens.

I'm amazed at how quickly and completely that dissent went from being patriotic to being racist.

I voted. Later today I'm going to spread the wealth around and put new snow tires on my SUV. I can't pay my taxes if I can't get to work this winter. All this I do for America.
Re: This is the day...
I am going to vote at around 1:00, in between my classes. It's a dark day.
Obama is going to win, and for three main reasons.
1) The media has turned Obama into the biggest celebrity since the Beatles.
2) Voting for a black guy with an Arab name is the politically correct, and enlightened thing to do.
3) McCain picked Palin. I like her because of the gun thing, but realistically, the rest of America sees her as a rightist loony, white trash, etc... I mean seriously. McCain couldn't have picked someone who didn't have a pregnant teenage daughter? That was a STUPID move on his part. Had McCain picked Mitt Romney for his vice, he would have had this election won easily.
It's a sad comment on the state of the GOP, and the state of our nation. I hope that we can take it back in 4 years...if there is anything left to take.

Obama may(probably will) win. You will likely be correct about that, and #1 and #2. But you are wrong on #3. Sarah is far more conservative than Romney, and McCain choose her because of that. The "evangelical Christians" were thrown a bone, because they were very unhappy with McCain over abortion, and they didn't trust Romney because he is LDS. That Palin hunts and fishes was even better. She also gives the "dissed" Hilliary supporters another excuse to vote McCain/Palin.
This election is interesting. The moderate-to-slightly-conservative Democrats have little to lose if McCain wins, and much to gain. He really isn't that far off many of their positions. They could say to the rest of the DNC: "See what happens when you get too radical?" It might even allow them to retake their party from the radicals. And to them, 4 yrs of McCain/Palin would be a small price to pay to take back their party.

This is a pretty good article too:

It's a long article, and we'll know in some hours if it's true or not, but he makes a pretty good argument.

I was just saying that it was stupid because he's not playing the game well. As someone in a moderate blue state, I can really speak from experience when I say that by picking such a strong conservative, he scared off people who were on the fence. I know that both my parents (and many other people i spoke to) had planned to vote for McCain, until he picked Palin. They hated Obama, and McCain was a nice moderate they could vote for. But in their minds, picking this woman with a sketchy educational background, a knocked up kid, an uber-Christian, little political experience, etc.... it seemed to be such an act of bad judgment on McCain's part, that they are now voting for BHO (spit). Picking a moderate pres was VERY smart as a way to combat the super-leftism of BHO. But they should have stuck with the theme and gone with Romney. With the lousy economy, people would been comforted by his economic experience. he's also the kind of person who people can see taking over and actually being president if McCain were to die. People don't see Palin as being "presidential." I mean, seriously.Termite wrote:

Everything I have said is not necessarily my opinion. I'm just parroting what I have heard from the constituency here in CT. Dems are going to vote Dem. GOPs are going to vote GOP. The only people who really matter in the end are the moderates. McCain could have gotten away with not appeasing the evangelical Christians. They were going to vote GOP anyway, even begrudgingly. He had their vote no matter who he picked. The thing to do was grab a relatively moderate VP.
(I'm editing to say that the plan I laid out essentially turns the GOP into the moderate party instead of the conservative party, and it would no longer truly represent our ideals. I just was saying this would be a good way to win an election. Of course I realize he would be stabbing real conservatives in the back. I voted for Fred in the primaries. Now THAT'S a conservative.)
