Judicial appointments: A president’s most enduring impact

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court began its new term. It was a reminder that the next president’s most enduring impact may well be his judicial appointments.
He will likely appoint at least two justices on the high court. On Inauguration Day, six of the nine justices will be 70 or older. Many important constitutional questions hang in the balance. There are four liberal justices, four conservatives, and Justice Anthony Kennedy. This has led to some razor-thin 5-4 decisions.
Take the June 2008 Heller decision, which struck down the Washington, D.C., gun ban. What was astonishing was that four justices actually think the Second Amendment does not protect an individual’s right to possess a handgun in the home to defend his family.

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
