*shakes head*

I just cannot grok why these people want to be kept, tools of an oppressive police state, serving at their master's will. Slaves to the state, and never anything more.

Better to serve on your knees, safe and secure, rather than to live free I guess. I love the money quote though-
They can continue to watch as their children are killed, or they can get the guns out of the hands of the killers.
Which makes the basic (and incorrect) assumption that the removal of a firearm will make a murderer something else, something better or more beneficial. It's all the guns fault, you know. How polluted and disconnected does your logic have to be to arrive at this conclusion?

I guess I'm just ranting in response to such an absurd idea. I know there's no logic involved, everything is driven by emotion. I guess my real question is not how to get someone like this thinking for themselves, but if you even CAN get them to examine an idea like this and decide it could be a bad one?

I wonder if she would protest the tattooing of all residents of the South Side to keep better tabs on them...

sadly, for most of the people like that, their ability to think for themselves only happens when they are laying in a gutter with a sucking chest wound

It doesn't keep him safe. It means he hasn't pissed someone off enough to where they borrow some tactics from Iraqi insurgents. (My $0.02 in response to the headline)

I'm just so stunned at the lack of logic in her argument I don't know how to respond.

Years ago, there was a State of Illinois souvenir shop on Michigan Ave, downtown.

And they actually had a T-shirt in the window with the logo, "Welcome to Chicago ... where the weak are slain and eaten."

It'll come to that, and she will think it a fine development; with it people will be "safe".

[or at least the cops will know where to go to pick up the bodies]
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

I love that little snipe of hers "Gun-toters aren't hunting wild animals, they're hunting other humans."

Y'know, Mope-rah*, gun-toters can also be there keeping themselves from being hunted. In the wild it's called a threat display. In human terms it's "deterrence." There's no deterrence from the non-criminal population.

Considering the rampant abuses of the Chicago Police Department since... forever... I laugh hysterically at the fact that they'll be trustworthy with such power.

She must truly want to be beaten with a night stick and thrown across the hood of her own car.
