California AB 2498 vetoed...

Post by Double Tap »

The Governator vetoed AB 2498 the other day. We here in the D.P.R.K. dodged a proverbial bullet with this one. The idea of the bill was to make firearm training providers do background checks on potential students. This would ensure that the student could legally possess the firearm that he/she would be training with. Okay...
The original text of the bill refers to "paramilitary training" in a vague sort of way, and then gives a list of who can receive it. I don't think that it's impossible, that these knuckleheads would try to lump shooting sports into this type of draconian legislation. I think that IPSC, IDPA, and 3 gun clubs should really watch their back. Check out http://www.leginfo.ca.gov

the law forced the state to comply with federal contracting laws... any place that offers government firearms training has to verify the background of all students...

i dont see the problem here since federal law already requires it.

Since there is already a federal law covering this, why should a state enact what is essentially the same law? Having lived in the DPRK for many years, I have a pretty good historical knowledge of how the Sacramento Scum operates. IMHO, Doubletap's concern for the shooting sports is a valid one.

The problem is that states use federal laws as a starting point to pile on additional restrictions. Once a seemingly "logical" law is on the books, legislative changes are pretty easily made. Initial passage of legislation is often difficult due to the openness required, but "simple" legislative "house-cleaning" modifications are often done in the dark..........
