Burning Down The House: What Caused Our Economic Crisis?

Post by Erik »

A primer on the current crisis, and the history of what caused it.
About 10mins long, and worth the time. Lots of facts that can be googled for verification.

UPDATE:
Warner got the video removed from YouTube. Here's the new version.

Thanks, Erik.
I 'm going to show that to the Mrs. and the kids when they are done with their homework.

The inimitable Miz Malkin has an interesting article about a contributing factor in the mortgage meltdown: illegals.

Perhaps we should redefine fair to mean that the majority get boned to placate the unworthy few.

All true politicians will sell out anybody for a few more votes. That is what happened in the early 90's when laws were passed to make it possible for those who didn't have the necessary credit to buy a used automobile could be trusted to make house payments. The general population is as much to blame because of their indifference as to what laws were being passed in Washington. Things were going so good for the dems that they thought it would be a good idea to repeal regulations from the depression era. Lessons were not learned, now we are fucked again.

Just heard that the House of Reps declined to pass the bail-out package.

Bravo.

For a written, rather than you-tubish, set of comments on the origins of the financial crisis, I recommend looking at Jerry Pournelles daybook: start here and scroll down to the various "bailout" links. I think Dr. Pournelle might be one of the sanest people on the planet, and what he has to say - whether ones agrees or disagrees with his conclusions - is usually well worth listening to. I only wish that the "powers that be" would pay attention to his ideas.
