Beer is too fiddly and touchy for me to work up interest in homebrewing, but I am starting my first batch of wine (Montepulciano) during this spring.

Many moons ago I hunted boar out of a lodge in western TN.

Being an outsider, with a sense of humor, and a taste for whisky, I was called upon to judge the local production.

Many of the locals distilled their own.

And it was EXCELLENT!!!

140 proof (70% alcohol) and it went down like milk.

Let's play Unintended Consequences: I foresee smuggling, black market tobacco, convenience store robberies and truck hijackings on a massive scale.

Already happening. When MN passed our "we don't raise taxes in this administration" cigarette fee, there was a long-running rash of smash and grabs in the convenience stores. That's where you steal a car, drive it through the front of a store, then load up your getaway car with all of the cigarettes you can fit.

The rest of use started driving to Wisconsin until they added their tax. That had to cut into the tax profits a bit. When there's no point in an hour long round trip to get cheap smokes, I quit making the trip, as did thousands of other people.

I finally quit smoking because the budget started to hurt when we found out baby #3 was on the way.

California would be a GREAT state - if we could dump all the liberals and start the state government over from scratch using minimal government. This state has climate, farmland, trees, water in the north, mountains, snow, lots of sun in the south, easy access to the ocean & fishing, and if we started over, we could start drilling for oil & gas off the coastline - RIGHT IN FRONT of Barbara Streisand's house in Malibu.
