Spot On. Communist regimes have replaced either dictatorships or despotic monarchies. It will be slower work to install communism in a previously democratic republic. Socialism will come first, communism later. Remember, the difference between socialism and communism is that the socialists haven't confiscated all of the guns yet.

I assume QuietMan's "yet" (while I was typing this post) refers at least in part to the guns. If he wins the election and the Evil Party also has substantial gains in Congress, the "yet" will come.......

I'm not one of those Europeans. I'd place him on the far left here, on the verge to even be able to get into our Parliament.
In my opinion, Europeans that says he's to the right of our politicians haven't listened to him, only to what our media says about him, and what they show of him. (The New York Times is considered a conservative paper here)

The party systems here doesn't lend itself to direct comparisons, but if he was a party leader here I dont think his party would get more than 10% max, he's just not that good at the ordinary joe/working class hero" routine that socialists here has to do. He'd get the party faithful few, and be a general nuisance for the rest of the country.
If he wasn't a party leader, he could probably get in on a party ticket, the only requirements is basically that you are loyal to the party, attack the opposition as much as possible, and dont make an absolute ass of yourself unless you can cover it up. And Obama is a decent speaker when using a teleprompter, so he'd be useful for a party here.
