If any ammunition can pierce armor after being fired from a handgun in that caliber, it is toast. Period. So, if a .223 fired from a T/C handgun (or a pistol-configured AR for that matter) can punch through armor, (more than likely level II armor) kiss it goodbye. Here's a gun that fires some rifle calibers

Magnum Research is best know for their Desert Eagle line of automatic pistols but they also make the Lone Eagle, which is a single shot pistol which uses mostly rifle calibers. The Lone Eagle is primarily designed for hunting but in a role playing game environment would make a excellent sniper weapon as well. Magnum Research also produces a smaller aitomatic pistol and a hunting rifle design.

The Lone Eagle is designed starting from a polymer stock which then can have a variety of different barrels, sights,and scopes added to the weapon. The weapon can be quickly broken down and barrels can be switched quickly. The barrel is constructed from Military spec Chrome MolyVanadium. The weapon's barrel is available in a variety of different calibers including .22 Hornet, .223 Remington, .22/250 Remington, .243 Winchester., 7mm-08 Remington, 7mm B.R., .30-30 Winchester, 7.62 x 39, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .357 Maximum, .358 Winchester, .35 Remington, .44 Magnum, and .444 Marlin. The weapon is available with or without Muzzle Breaks and in matte black or chrome.

If you're going to make a claim and believe it about distortion, you *should* be able to find it, shouldn't you?

I did find it, I was already familiar with it. The NRA claim only makes sense if you consider .308 and other deer calibers "handgun ammuntion." That is silly, but the writers went out of their way during the debate anyway to say "of course we're not talking about hunting ammo."

So fact check was reporting the facts as they understood them, that this was a "distortion," but not a lie. The NRA disputing it publicly does not help its cause.

we have at least 5 other members from the same area that do not have these views... ergo it stands to reason that it isnt something that is caused simply by geography.

I don't know anything about that, IIRC the last rating he had was a very disturbing C rating - which is probably quite accurate.
