Hat tip I think to Instapundit or Chicago Boyz?

This could probably go into another thread but I could quite figure out which one was appropriate. Feel free to move and edit.

Damm good read ;) ;) ;)
Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people.

Not really accurate in many details. She didn't send the corrupt state politicians to jail, the FBI did. She just happened to be governor at the time it was going on. The abuse of power investigation was far from over, and it was sticking. It is my personal opinion that she started her own concurrent investigation, for the purpose of releasing the evidence (a taped phone call from a member of her staff to Walt Monegan about trooper Wooten) that she knew to exist, with her own spin on it.

Ted Stevens did NOT get a new mansion in Girdwood, the scandal and charges surrounding him are based on the renovations to what was his very modest home. It may turn out that Veco, with whom he contracted for the work, didn't bill him for everything that they did. Ted is on the record as saying that he paid every bill he was given, so the trial will turn on whether or not he knew (or likely, "should have known") that they did some extra and didn't charge him.

And of course, it is also my opinion that her actions, and those of our legislature has served more to delay any gas pipeline project than promote it, since Frank Murkowski had a deal signed with the oil companies. I still think that if we do manage to get the thing built, it is going to end up looking a lot like the plan Frank negotiated. Say what you will about Frank, but he campaigned on the platform of getting the ball rolling on the gasline, and he was able to get a deal made, where decades of previous governors had failed. And then was lambasted for having given away too much to the oil companies. Frank did a few things that I wasn't super keen on, but overall, I think he was a good governor, and I have even nearly forgiven him, Trent Lott, and Don Young for crashing my wedding reception, back when Frank was still a Senator.
