not too sure that it is all that smart for a big company to get this involved in a political issue. but it is their company to do with what they please...Apple, long a proponent of gay rights, is putting its money where its mouth is, donating $100,000 to the group No on Prop 8. Proposition 8 is a ballot initiative in California that would deny the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Kudos, Apple.
Apple is joining Google in publicly opposing proposition 8. It has a history of supporting same-sex couples, as well.
"Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees' same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person's fundamental rights—including the right to marry—should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8."
Say what you will about their products, but as far as I'm concerned this is a commendable move that should be mirrored by even more Silicon Valley companies.

Actually no. It "belongs" to Apple stockholders.mekender wrote: not too sure that it is all that smart for a big company to get this involved in a political issue. but it is their company to do with what they please...

O'Reilly had some woman on from the Yes on 8 campaign. Apparently, a lot of large companies have contributed the No side, including Comcast, and Clear Channel. Didn't catch all of them
Anyway, I mailed my ballot this morning, and my vote for Prop. 8 was 'Yes.'

Why am I not surprised, look at their market share. If they didn't come out against prop 8 they might make some of their customer base mad. This would cause Apple some serious problems. Apple customers might not wait outside Apple stores for days waiting for a new gizmo. They might just buy their overpriced junk online instead. Just saying.
Oh and this gives me just ONE more reason not buy their overpriced, over rated electronics.

I wouldn't have considered their hardware anyways. It's fine stuff, I'm sure, but overpriced for what it is. Although I'd be more in line with their position on Prop. 8.
I'd imagine most of the Fortune 500 feels the same. The market will not be denied.

I never have been an admirer of Apple, it's products or its marketing. I saw the new Mac Air, you know that the battery is internal and the computer and has to be sent in for replacement? What's to stop them from downloading your computer when you send it in? I know, my tinfoil hat looks very fetching.
