Many thanks, Chris.
It's all looking much more usable now.
I think I mildly prefer the SubSilver theme to the AeroRed + changes.

You have successfully dragged our forum into...what is this now? The teens? The only problem I have now is making sure that I can tell this forum from ZS and others. To that end I think I will use the red theme.

Chris, just a comment on MY personal preferences. I like the layout of AeroRed, probably because it's so similar to what I'm used to, and the colors of Subsilver2.
I don't suppose there is any way to combine them (he asked hopefully)?

Technically, I don't know what the hell you people are talking about. I'm old. I don't like change. But I know it's inevitable, so I embrace it. Where's my drink?

Bob K speaks for me, (except for that "embrace" thing) and I suspect for a few others around here as well. You younger non-Luddites have fun making changes, but don't leave us out in the cold.
(Bob, did anyone show up with your drink? I had to go get mine myself.
)

Color scheme is fine by me.

Be thankful for small mercies - it could have been about
your choice of cosmetics.
We'd never get finished.

I get a white square surrounding the arrows for each forum on the main index page. I'm using Firefox 3.5.9 on Linux.
