Senator Bob Collins was indeed a member of the Australian Labor party.
This however isn't the real Senator Collins, it's a comedian playing him in a classic scetch. He plays it so seriously that it's absolutely hilarius.

Clever. Though for me, not too far from reality, it did kinda remind me of the badgering that Charlie Gibson gave Sarah Palin.
