I was telling someone about "Wolowitz' mom" as a means of comparison to his own mother who, by his description, can be pretty demanding. He's never watched the show so I googled and found this link last night and sent it to him. Don't know if he's watched it yet so I don't know how well she compares if at all, but I laughed my arse off at this compilation. I think the show is awesome, and the writers are brilliant for keeping Mom off camera. YMMV...

It's pretty entertaining, and of course, Sheldon's character is the best one. Wouldn't bother me much if Leonard fell out a window tomorrow.

Agreed. Mr Mo K identifies pretty much with Sheldon in the "he says what I'm often thinking" dept. lol

The main thing that bothers me about it, is how milquetoast they are portrayed. I dint know any milquetoast nerds - it takes a certain obstinacy to go through a normal HS and still want to be a nerd.

The show would be over the next day.

He's the only one trying to maintain a foothold in both nerd-world and real world, and without him as a bridge between the others, there's nothing.
He's also the straight man for most of what goes on.
Without him Sheldon would be on a 5150 hold in about a week, and after that, writing his magnum opus from a secure facility for the giftedly insane.
Raj would be a transvestite, Howard would be spending his spare time in porn shop video booths, and Penny would be a hooker looking at her third strike now.

As for the voice of Wolowitz's mom, it's a genius gimmick; she can be funny, but she's got a face for radio, which is pretty limiting for TV. Icing on the cake is that Melissa Rauch can do The Voice better than Susi does it herself.

Love the show, although agree with the milquetoast. As a nerd myself, I know you develop a thick skin or you go nuts.

I always tell my wife I identify best with Leonard, the almost socially capable of the bunch with the inappropriately hot Significant Other. Although I do have a bit of Sheldon in me (saying things that turn out to be inappropriate), Raj (difficulty speaking to women, especially beautiful women, but not the sexual confusion). Not so much like Howard, never been quite that creepy.

One thing they never touch on (and it would ruin the show if they did) is that nerds DO manage to make-the-beast-with-two-backs, generally at places where nerds congregate, like comic-con, ren faire, and (my personal experience) Mensa gatherings. I was never a member of Mensa but knew some people who were, and I can tell you from experience that if you can't get your ashes hauled at a Mensa event, you couldn't in Reno with ten thousand dollars cash spending money.

It's definitely part of the show.

I don't recall if that one was in reference to the Orion slave girl or the girl dressed as Sailor Moon, but that's just two incidents off the top of my head.

Not to mention that even Raj, portrayed as totally hopeless with women, has hooked up with at least five women on screen (not counting Sailor Moon or the Orion slave girl).
