I can recall needing needlenose pliers to get one cholla ball out of my hand after a helo insertion in Chocolate Mtns.

I think if I'd been walking by, and he'd gotten himself extricated, I'd have pushed him back in, for the same reason herd animals kill their own weak members proactively, and the sheer pleasure of the act.

And also because listening to his whinging is therapeutic, in the same way watching other people on daytime talk shows, People's Court, or COPS relieves one's anxiety or feelings of self-doubt.


Oh, and this is also why we plant cactus on smuggling trails near the southern border, and water it until its well-established. There's nothing funnier than coming back a month or three later and finding bloody clothes fragments amidst a newly transplanted patch.

My wife encountered a cactus in AZ one time that jumped onto her as she walked by, they build up a static charge and spread their seeds by being attracted to whatever walks by. I think her jacket still has some spines in it.

As for the video, that guy is going to have "Is The Camera On?" on his tombstone.
