The only people I ever heard of who "kept" possums was a story this Southern guy told me about old black guys down south who'd trap a possum, feed it corn and stuff to clean it out, then kill and eat it.

None of the possums I've ever handled were that docile. Of course, I'd just hit them with sticks, and I was slinging them around my head to throw them across the street or trying to drop kick them.

I've heard of people who keep them in lieu of cats and treat them the same way. Not for me.

Remember some television special back years ago on strange pets. One old lady had a full grown beaver that was affectionate as heck.
