Ghost in the Shell was the first anime I ever saw. I happened upon it while channel surfing one day. I hadn't ever seen "adult" anime before, only the Pokemon variety. The artistic vision of the director was impressive and well done (the montage of city scenes while Major Kusanagi wanders comes to mind) and I was hooked.

After reading the comic you linked to, I sat down and read the series through from the beginning. The artist is not only technically talented, but has a vision that makes his art memorable. Much like The Ghost of the Revelator by L.E. Modesitt, Jr., he has created a unique world that draws one in. While the philosophical musings may be above my pay grade, it's certainly an enjoyable read and visually stimulating. Having a young, good looking cyborg heroine doesn't hurt either. Thanks for sharing.

It's nice to see other fans of Dresden Codak here. In addition to what JustinR wrote I think the creator does a good job of keeping the philosophical musings understandable to the layman while still hitting the points he want to. It's one of the few web comics that have both taught me something and caused me to seek further knowledge.

The reason I brought GitS up is because I found Dresden Codak to be the boring work of a hack poking at the same line of philosophy. A lot of that might be related to the incredibly awful speech bubble placement that has never improved, though.

Just as an FYI, for those who care, non coding DNA appears to have lots of catalytic and structural purposes.

I took a little of column A from Masamune Shirow and a little of Column B from John Scalzi and wound up with one of my more fun characters to play in City of Heroes. I miss that game.
