It's the intricacy level of the complexity.

DreamWorks and Pixar paint the Mona Lisa, they just farm it out to 5000 guys each doing 2000 pixels apiece.
You by yourself would be doing one pixel at a time, or painting with a pushbroom.

Sound has gone the same way. Movie sound used to be L/R, score, and effects.
Now it's 7.1 microphones instead of L/R, the score is hundreds of tracks, and the effects track several hundred more.
Each one mixed, massaged, and blended until everything looks and sounds perfect.

No, they generally get the technical details right, even on the perfect shit.
