Why the heck aren't there vents under the steering wheel -- EVERY man would love a vent there, esp on hot days...

Hmm... Which Jeep do you have? My brother got one of the new 4 door Rubicons, and I don't remember one there.

Back when we moved the shop from Cali to Florida I made at least a dozen trips back and forth in a 24' box truck. I modified a vented seat cushion into a "cool seat" by adding a hose connection to one of the AC vents. Worked exceptionally well at keeping my backside dry, and turned out to be quite the conversation piece whenever I got pulled over. From an officer's perspective walking up to the truck, it looks indecent due to where the hose plugs into the seat cushion. Since they're typically well acquainted with what's it like to sit on a car seat all day, it didn't take much explaining to go from "what the hell is that" to "can I try it?"

That one doesn't look quite so pervish, by mine will keep your backside cool and dry.

My 89 Cherokee has a vent under the steering column at crotch level, and every Toyota pickup I've ever owned including my Tundra have one there, too.

Man, it's nice when it's hot and sticky outside. Why don't more cars have them?

Using Ockham's Razor, it's because the manufacturers don't want to spend the money.

Using the "All it takes is for one freak to ruin a good thing" line of reasoning, it's because some designers thought that a sweaty wang is a happy wang.

I am really, really, really hoping that the first answer is the reason.

My '71 Challenger has a spot cooler in the tube that feeds the driver's side vent; it has a rotating cover to block it if desired. The aim is a little low but it really wouldn't take much to put a deflector there to aim it 'just so'.
