On the list of things I didn't want to think about today, nevermind during my entire lifetime:
PHOENIX --An unvaccinated person who has measles may have spread the disease around portions of the Valley, Maricopa County Health Officials said Wednesday.

"Measles is the most contagious disease known to man, which is why when we find one case, we must act quickly to identify additional cases and stop the outbreak as soon as possible," said Dr. Bob England, director of Maricopa County Department of Public Health, in a release.

The individual, who has not been identified, visited several areas in the Valley. Anyone who was at the following locations at the following times is asked to monitor themselves and call their health care provider if they notice anything out of the ordinary.

• March 29: Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Terminal 4 from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m.
• March 30: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Cave Creek Chapel, 38008 N. Basin Road in Cave Creek (Cave Creek, Desert Ridge and Pinnacle Peak Wards) from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
• March 31: Wildflower Bread Company, 15640 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale from noon until 5 p.m.
• March 31: Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Terminal 4 from 3 p.m until 7 p.m.
Seen via Facebook from a friend who also has a baby boy too young to have made it through the full MMR schedule.

Sky Harbor? Really? And I've been to that Wildflower Bread Company. It's the kind of place I'd consider kid-friendly enough to take the kiddo to, and this person was there possibly spreading measles for 5 hours. That's not the kind of news I'd want to receive if I'd been there with the boy.

Argh, why won't these people Darwin themselves without exposing everyone else's kids in the process?

I recently read about an outbreak in Seattle: http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/ ... lexml.html

Anti-vaxxers should be moved to their own special island paradise. Somewhere in Antarctica.

Portland is apparently the least vaccinated city, with Oregon being the least vaccinated state. IIRC, the reported non-vaccinated population in Oregon is right on the threshold for compromising herd immunity, so things are only going to get worse.

I understand your angst, but PERHAPS they didn't know they were infected (or they might have just thought they were suffering from a cold/flu)??? The last thing we want is for people to be going through medical screenings at airports to ascertain if they're carrying something they might not even be aware of - it would simply be FAR TOO EASY for the GOVERNMENT to make something up and select out those they didn't want in public anymore. And NO, I no longer have ANY trust in the federal government to do the right thing.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but I SERIOUSLY doubt MORE GOVERNMENT is the right response - ESPECIALLY with OBUMMERCARE taking over the ENTIRE (except for CASH PATIENTS, with almost NO medical records) industry.

It's self-limiting.
If anyone presents with measles symptoms, they should be handed an Obamacare card, and escorted off hospital premises and told to phone for an appointment with their new doctor. (I would make the non-vaxxers card a custom one, with Dr. Jenny's visage on the front, superimposed on a representation of a flat earth.)
If a facility were particularly generous, providing the afflicted with a list of local witch doctors would also be within policy.

If one wishes to live in the 14th century, farbeit for me to interfere.

That was the entire purpose.

YES, I UNDERSTAND - They REALLY want to push a SINGLE-PAYER system, administered and CONTROLLED by the federal government. And to think that when I got INTO law enforcement, the federal government was the LEAST powerful arm of the government - the MOST powerful was the local Sheriff, and other local LEOS.

How things have changed FOR THE WORSE!!!

I recommend Afognak. Since they want to live in the stone age, let them arm themselves with sticks and rocks. I am sure they would get along swimmingly with the locals.

Shit. Measles kills infants.

Despite being vaccinated, I had measles when I was in grade school. I was horribly ill for a week. It's much worse for the *very* young.

The little ones have to be a certain age before you can vaccinate them, and it takes a while before they're protected. If I had a wee one that got measles in that window of vulnerability because some fool didn't want to get vaccinated, I'm not sure what I'd do.

For those who don't know - Tristan de Cunha is the most remotely habited island in the world.
