A website that will help you buy pretty much anything...

Post by bubblewhip »

So some of us (especially Chris) tend to make our purchasing decisions very carefully and do all sorts of long term research on what we buy. Stuff like computers, guns, trucks, cars, and a lot of the other big things. The problem is that usually the research takes a lot of time out of our day to do, and doing it for every single thing we buy would be insane.

So I found this website called Consumer Search and it's not like every other review site out there. Rather than personally product testing every single thing, they take reputable review sources and compile them together to find the common aspects of products to evaluate which ones are the best. They also do a full report with citation to show where they found the comparing reviews and will also mention what they put against it to make that decision.

I find it to be very useful for finding a quick evaluation for the mundane things like blenders, toaster ovens, and air conditioners that we usually find to be "white goods" or products we spend little to no time researching on.

It's not entirely perfect, and the primary problem is that some of the stuff on there hasn't been updated for 3 years or so, so it's important to check out the "updated" portion of the page to see when it was last checked on. But for almost every single area that I have spend months researching on personally, I haven't found a product choice during the update time that isn't somewhere in the top 3 or so in personal choice.

Some examples I have personally experienced or purchased compared to Consumer Search results...

Best-Value binoculars: Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10X42 (Not my first choice, I picked the Vortex 8x42 and the Nikon Monarch 10X42 as my choices, but when I used the Bushnell Legends, they were competitive with my two choices and had all the features like fully multi-coated lenses and phase correction. As a binocular choice though, they are a pretty excellent choice)

Best overall Monitor: Dell UltraSharp u2412m (This is the best monitor I ever owned, it has 16:10 ratio,1920x1200 display with IPS technology, and a fully adjustable stand. I got mine for $280 with shipping, but for $340 you are damn pressed to find something else better than this monitor)

Best Economy Car: Honda Fit (My friend actually purchased this on advice on my end, and it's a very very good car. Basically all the car one needs if all they want is to haul 5 people and cargo around a city and highway. It was actually able to fit a 46 inch TV with the seats folded down. It handled excellently and a lot of standard equipment like stability control, Mp3 support, and cruise control that would usually be expensive options. A few complaints I have are the road noise since the Fiesta doesn't have that problem on the highway, but it's nothing that's not listed on Consumer Search's website about the car.)

So yeah. That's basically Consumer Search, I wanted to share with you guys a website that's not really mentioned a lot, but I find it to be 95% accurate on it's evaluations. I want to know if you think their choices for stuff you might be really knowledgeable in are correct or incorrect as well.

Hope this helps you guys!

Edit: Some of the full report links are broken. So the one for the Dodge 1500 for example has no evaluations to it. Like I said, it's not a perfect website.

That "product" is too new on the American market to have comprehensive reviews, yet. :P
If time, chance and random process can produce a platypus why not an ammo tree?
