I can already see the lawsuit: "We got lost in the maze because he didn't put up direction. Emotional Distress!!!"
Family Lost In Corn Maze Calls 911 For Help
BOSTON -- A North Shore police department received an unusual emergency call on Monday from a family who was lost in a corn maze.
The family used a cellphone to call from Connors Farm in Danvers at about 7 p.m. Tuesday after the couple and their two children -- a 5-year-old and a 3-week-old -- became lost in the maize maze, police said.
"I'm really scared. It's really dark and we've got a 3-week-old baby with us," the woman told the 911 dispatcher.

"Just relax. Your husband is with you, right?" the dispatcher asked.
"Yes, but my baby!" the woman said.
A completely valid response, given how babies are well known to be vulnerable to corn exposure.

You've never actually been near a baby, have you?
These idiots (and they ARE idiots, nearly to a degree that you could describe as 'criminal') should never have gone into a place where they might not be able to leave immediately, with such a small child. If you go out at all with such a little one, you have to be careful and prepared. They have certain needs that have to be met, and I'm willing to make a large wager the parents were NOT prepared for an extended time away from the supplies at home/in the car.

Panic. And stupidity.
You suggest a simple, sensible solution... but if they had the mental horsepower to manage simple, sensible solutions on their own they wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.

Yeesh! It's a corn field. [strike]Unless they did something really unusual to build the maze[/strike], you pick a row, and plow straight through the corn until you hit a fence or a road. Take your bearings and proceed as indicated.
I just had a chance to see the video. That patch would barley count as field in Iowa, it's so small. Pick any direction and walk along a row and you'd be at the wood line or road in 5-10 minutes.
+1 on taking a youngling with you without adequate preparation (or just not doing it until the kid's older? Naaah, Crazy Talk).

Not near enough to observe the effects of the dreaded Ethanol-235.

I've taken my babies lots of places. Unless the kid is prone to sudden emergency attacks, I wouldn't hesitate to bring a brat into a corn maze.
