Sooooo, i just got an email about a tv show that used my employers for a filming location, was on recently - this is the third or 4th time they've done it in the last couple of years... one the one hand, its kinda cool to see. On the other... It turns most of the building upside down while filming, disrupts the production schedule, makes the parking situation go from horrible, to worse, and to be honest, i dont really get anything out of it.

Finally got around to firing the Rem 7600 in 35 Whelen today. Got it zeroed with the one box of 200gr Hornady factory ammo I had, and proceeded to start testing handloads. For what it is, it actually shoots pretty well so long as I wait for the barrel to cool between shots (which was not unexpected). Best group of the day was about 1.25MOA although 2" or more was common since I was usually not sufficiently patient. Much of the time the first 2 shots from a cold bore would be touching or nearly so, and it would open up from there as the barrel heated up. The best group was with Sierra 225s, but overall I didn't see enough difference between those and the Barnes 225s to decide between them based on accuracy, so it will come down to either cost (Sierra) or bullet construction (Barnes). Will probably go with bullet construction because Alaska.

Also test fired some handloads in the CZ527 7.62x39 which were a total shit-show accuracy wise; as bad as the worst cheap steel case ammo I have ever used. It's probably not a case of the rifle not liking both bullets I used (Speers and Sierras), so I am thinking powder choice or maybe some other factor. I have some different powders to play with at least. Need to get some softer primers too since I had several misfires with the CCIs I normally use.

Looks like I got the charge of W296 nailed down for loading Hornady 208 BTHP and having it stay reliably subsonic from my bolt action 300blk too. :D

I found this to be really interesting, especially having been an adult during the time the lead was being phased out from motor fuels.

Please post the load that works in your 527. I like mine.

Random question. Have you slugged the bore?

Nope. But I have fired Winchester jsp factory ammo loaded with .308” bullets, and the same load with .310” (they switched), and I didn’t note any real difference in group size. Barrel is stamped .311”.

Good show. I just threw a random idea out there.

End of an era and all that. The log cabin that sits on what was my maternal grandparents' place is being torn down today. Funny how things change, my mother lived in it until she was 11 or so. When I was a kid my uncle lived there still.

Things move on
