The more I read about that disaster, the more I think Egypt is trying a shakedown to cover for the fuckups for their own canal pilots.. and

The Egyptian canal pilots will wreck your ship if they don't get their bribe and they tell you up front that they will. I have seen it first hand, not wrecking it; demanding and getting bribed.

Sounds like an early form of insurance. The weird thing to me was that the guy who had a total loss gets total compensation, and the guy who had a partial loss appeared to be paying in a bit more than he was receiving.Netpackrat wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 2:39 am The following was suggested for me by the YouTube Al Gore-ithm:

That was my take as well; having your cargo survive a major shipping disaster is apparently not good luck.Weetabix wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 5:23 pmSounds like an early form of insurance. One of the bears noted here crossed my aunt's place (just a couple miles from where my grandparent's farm used to be. Amazing, when I was a kid we went elsewhere to deer hunt because there weren't really any around., now there are bear.

I thinkthey over charged him, but I don't have much issue overall with the Chauvin verdict (I have no sympathy for George Floyd though). This case though is very different though and this is some progress.

Yeah, it's not like a member of BLM lied to get on the jury to ensure a conviction...

Not clear to me at all that just was well served in the Chauvin trial. Among other things the locale of the venue was IMHO inappropriated considering the admitted fears of reprisal that jurors were operating under.
