Geese - Canadas and snow (flakes that is)!

Since about the end of the second week of August I’ve been seeing large flocks of geese heading south and it then slowed down to a large trickle the first week of September and has stayed fairly consistent till this evening…There is a retention pond near my home, 2.7 KM away (used for grey water usage and fire fighting…swimming isn’t permitted nor really recommended but it’s a fun spot for canoes and training water dogs)…This evening, hearing this odd noise coming from the pond’s direction we drove past it and could not see the water for the amount of geese, not only could I not see the water but any of the shoreline or side banks and most of the surrounding fields…For a rough estimate I would say between 125,000 to 140,000 birds parked there and the noise, from even 1 KM away, was deafening…

Me thinks an early winter! :cry:

On that same note, it started raining around 2:30 AM and now at 4:10 AM there is snow flakes in the air…not a lot, not very big, but enough to maybe have a bit of white on the grass in the morning… :o

This is just a little early but I had went fishing the last weekend of May about 20 years ago and had to come in for the snow was too heavy and thick to see through and once on the Labour Day long weekend the same thing happened…We usually don’t get any snow that stays around until mid to late November and it won’t melt till the end of April…During the late 1960s we had snow storms quite frequently in the beginning to middle of April and the earliest I remember was in 1986 when we were snowed in completely 2nd week of October and which shut down the city for four days…

Long and Hard winter is the word on the street. I'm hoping that it isn't too rough on you guys up in the Great White North. I didn't mind the couple of Wisconsin winters I lived through, but I know that when It gets really bad, it gets REALLY bad.

That sounds about right, as it's abnormally cool in TX right now...

It's snowed in San Diego only a couple of times in the last 50 years or so. I remember it snowing around 1967 or so. I'm going to order a cord of firewood so it'll sit out in the sun for a while before it starts cooling down (give the termites a chance to fatten up before they go POP in the fireplace).

I haven't heard too much lately from the Glueball Wormening bunch.

We have geese that have taken up year-round residence here. The city wants to find a "nice" way to get rid of them.

This is supposed to be a record cold winter. The sun spot activity is way down.

Right now we are having nice pleasant weather. down to the fifties over night and warms up to the eightys during the day. the good part is the humidity is way down.

It's been nice here, Labor Day 'til after the leaves fall is the best time of year in this part of Colorado. The trees know, though, they've been showing some color for a couple of weeks already. A guy at work reminded me that we had snow in September a year ago.
