No real news yet. Signing up with a couple of the more recommended sites, looking through some of their intro/training stuff. Will need to take basic tests, but probably not until tomorrow.

By chance are you pursuing any of the dictation/transcription jobs?

Yup, that's pretty much what I'm focusing on.

TurboTax has a "Home and Business" edition that will cover the Federal and Sate tax.

I'm going to take the TranscribeMe test tomorrow, then take a look around for some other well-known online companies.

Was only able to complete the application and test for Word Cast Workshop today, heard they paid pretty well.

Transcription test was for a 3 minute audio file. Read through their short style guide before starting. Test was pretty straightforward.

Funny thing was they said they'd contact you immediately if you failed, otherwise it could take a couple of weeks if it needs to be manually checked. Got a congratulations email within a minute of completing the test. Apparently, their review bot liked it.

More info as I get it.

How much per hour/line do those transcribing jobs pay?

It seems like something you could do better off on your own, if you built a network of clients.

Could be totally wrong, thought.

Betting you could, but it would be a whole heap of effort. Looking to make a little extra cash, not start a new business :)

The rate varies, and they price it differently. The most common is $XX/audio hour. One hour of audio can sometimes take a couple or more real hours to complete. Others price it as cents/audio minute. Looks like 80c/audio minute is a good rate, but many are in the 60-65 cent range.

Even the low rate comes out to $18 per real time hour of work.
