We've also managed to create a shockingly large number of well-paid but negative utility (as in, the 'work' they do makes life for everyone else more difficult, expensive and generally miserable) jobs for people incapable of doing anything useful. Annoying, but part of the price of a free society.
Academic aministrative make-work positions are taxpayer funded boondoggles to propagate additional hippies from the droppings of the original crop.

The biggest and most catastrophic failure of the Reagan Administration wasn't Amnesty v.1.0, it was the utter failure to sack and burn the Education Department, rape their women, enslave their children in the mines, leave no two stones standing one atop the other, slaughter the livestock, and sow salt in the fields so nothing would ever grow there again.
Anything short of a SAC nuclear "accident" that obliterated the entire department with several kilotons of plutonium was clearly too lily-livered and half-assed.
