Had some college dorm mates from northern Iowa, near the Minnesota border. They had shirts that spelled it "UFDAH!" and pronounced it "Oooof- dah!"
They used it in the context of "All Right!" "Far Out!", and, bringing it back on topic "F***ing A!".
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".
My first wife was from Minn and pronounced it more "oooff da" while my neighbour who comes from Norwegian stock from Thunder Bay pronounces it more like "uv taa" and then my friends in Grand Forks, North Dakota/East Grand Forks, MN pronounce it "ooovt ah" but others from Fargo, ND/Moorehead MN, 90 miles south, pronounce it "oafd ah" and both cities have the Red River dividing them.
It's really a regional thing but the T-Shirts I've seen in MN and ND all say "UFDAH".
It's been explained to me as a general exclamation covering everything from "Sheiss (SHIT!)" to "way cool" but never as the by-product, faeces, itself.
There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!
