What I meant is you are supposed to do the military first and come out with your A&P, and then use the GI Bill to pay for school afterward. Worked with a guy once who did it the same way as you... He happened to finish A&P school at the same time as the industry went into one of its periodic downturns, and was unable to find a job. Although getting the right experience in the military to satisfy the requirements for an A&P license is kind of hit or miss.
